Tricopigmentation

Scalp Tricopigmentation (STP)

At Your Hair Doc, we are always seeking new and innovative methods of treating hair loss, to bring you a wide range of treatment options. For those who may already have had surgical treatment such as FUT or FUE and would like to conceal their scars, or for those who would like to reduce the see-through appearance of thinning hair or to achieve the look of shaved head, a unique and effective treatment can be offered by Dr. Munir Somji and his team, here at the clinic.

Scalp Tricopigmentation (STP) or Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a cosmetic treatment which involves the application of tiny, tattooed ‘dots’ on to the scalp. As the dots are carefully matched to your own, natural hair colour, this treatment can give the appearance of a much fuller head of hair. This treatment can be offered as a temporary or permanent option.

How do I know I am suitable for STP or SMP?

Prior to deciding on the best course of treatment for your concern, Dr. Somji will conduct a no obligation consultation, to assess your individual condition, your medical history and your thoughts on your desired results. He will then create a programme of treatment for you.

What happens during the treatment?

The course of treatment is dependent on the look that you wish to achieve.

Shaved look

For this look, pigments are placed in to the scalp, to mimic the appearance of a hair follicle that is just growing (or breaking through the scalp). For people with no hair in this area, it gives them the opportunity to achieve the look of a full head of hair with a shaved style. To maintain this style, you will need to shave every 2 to 3 days, depending on the rate of hair growth of your own, permanent hair.

Thickening look for patches of thinning hair

For this look, the pigments are placed between existing hairs to reduce the colour contracts of the hair and the scalp. This gives the impression of thicker and denser hair all over the head. This is the perfect option for those who have opted for surgical treatment and would like to supplement this by adding the illusion of more density to the hair. This treatment is also helpful for those who use daily camouflage products and no longer wish to have to apply them.

Scar camouflage

To camouflage scarring, perhaps caused by previous surgical hair restoration therapies, such as FUE and FUT, or even injuries to the scalp, tiny pigmentation dots are placed on to the scars, to help reduce their visibility. A small patch test will need to be done, prior to this treatment, as scar tissue differs from that of normal skin and sometimes the tattoo ink can spread or be rejected from the scar.

Does it hurt?

Most patients find that they do not need any pain relief for this treatment. However, if you are particularly sensitive, we will be able to offer a local anaesthetic to numb the area, thus, making this a comfortable and pain-free treatment.

How long do the results last?

This is dependent on the type of ink used for your individual concern. Permanent ink (SMP) has a lifespan of between 3 to 5 years and temporary ink (STP) has a lifespan of between 6 to 24 months. You will be able to discuss which treatment will be best for you, in your no obligation consultation.
