Will People Know I’ve Had A Hair Transplant?

It’s always a worry isn’t it. You’ve taken the big step to have a surgical treatment to restore your thinning hair, you’ve done all the research you can to find a reputable surgeon with a proven track record of success and you’re on your way to a thicker head of hair then suddenly it dawns on you, “will people notice I have had hair restoration surgery?”. At YourHairDoc, we understand that having hair transplant surgery can offer up many questions and concerns. So, we do our very best to answer all these questions in a no-obligation consultation. Following this, you can make an informed and educated decision about whether to move forward with your treatment.

The Surgery

There are two main types of hair transplant surgery: Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT or STRIP). In FUE, hair follicles are individually extracted in groups of 1 to 4 and individually inserted in to areas of concern. FUT involves taking a strip of healthy hair from a donor site – usually the back of the head – and separating these hairs to re-insert in to the area of concern.

When a hair transplant is administered expertly, no one should know you have had the surgery. With FUT there can be a risk of a slight scar occurring at the back of the head, especially if the hair is particularly short or thin in this area. However, large scars can be avoided with proper medical tools and techniques offered by a reputable surgeon. Dr. Somji will also make sure that he is offering you the correct procedure for your individual concern, to minimise any risks of scars appearing.

It’s also important to think carefully about how you’d like to wear your hair following surgery. If you are going to wear it very short, it might be better to have an FUE treatment rather than FUT. You can also consider temporary tattooing to give the impression of thicker hair as your newly implanted hair grows. This will help to give a more natural hair appearance whilst your transplanted hair is being nurtured.

The most important aspect of hair transplant surgery is to find the right surgeon. Dr. Somji has performed thousands of hair transplants and will be able to show you a range of before and after pictures so you will be able to see for yourself, his past work and success rate. You must feel 100% confident in your surgeon and his or her abilities! At YourHairDoc, we make it our mission to give you all the advice, help and assistance you need, way before you take the decision to go ahead with surgery.
